About the play:
‘Santaap’ draws our conscience to a section of less privileged ones that the modern society terms as transgenders. Inspired by the novel of the same name by ManabChakraborty the director of this drama Sandip Bhattacharya takes the audience through the outcaste life of the slumdwellers of TitliBasti. The drama is a pointer to the convoluted perceptions and attitudes of the mainstream society, which continue to marginalize transgenders. A biological aberration at birth snatches them away from their dear and near, leaving them to to be trampled by their biologically perfect counterparts, depriving them oflove, sympathy and compassion forever.
This drama is a stark reminder of the fact that, these less privileged ones are not confined to the slum of TitliBasti. We see them often but know not. The drama is an attempt to bring some correction in our outlook, to accept transgenders as one among us.
